Project: Graphic Tees

These t-shirts were inspired by my hometown and travels. Each one marks a specific moment in my lifetime illustrated in a 21st century streetwear style.

Turbo Island

Turbo Island is a small triangle of land at the junction of Jamaica Street and Stokes Croft in central Bristol. Its existence is due to the destruction of the building that once stood there during an air raid in World War II.

After the War, it remained a vacant plot, and an advertising hoarding sprouted there. This was given official recognition in the 1960s.

The land in front of the hoarding became a “public space”, which was privately owned. this anomalous status allowed it to become a haven for street drinkers, and its unkempt nature became a totemic symbol of Stokes Croft.

This 100% cotton men's heavyweight tee will help you land a more structured look. It sits nicely, maintains sharp lines around the edges, and goes perfectly with layered streetwear outfits.

Ojo Dumeh

"Ojo dumeh", which in today's language might be directly translated as “don't just think about it” is considered a philosophy that is all time applicable and very powerful in Javanese culture.

Ojo dumeh's teaching advises us not to let our strengths backfire. A person's strengths can be in the form of wealth, expertise, position, beauty, popularity, or descent.

In the case of wealth, for example, do not just think about the rich and then disrespect the poor. Ojo dumeh! The wealth we have cannot be guaranteed to last. It could be that today we are rich, but tonight our wealth is robbed by people and all our wealth is gone. If something like that happened, what would you do? This is a reflection of the reality in life where there are rich and poor, some smart, some stupid, and so on. The rich could be poor and the poor could be rich.

For this reason, Javanese wisdom always reminds us to "ojo dumeh". Do not just have advantages and then become arrogant, uncontrollable, forget yourself, and even look down on others. Here are the 5 way ojo dumeh can give you a successful life:

1. Ojo dumeh reminds us not to slip and fall from where we are now. By always remembering a position below us, ojo dumeh creates caution.

2. Ojo dumeh will please others. When we are not biased or looking down on people they will be happy to be around and help us.

3. Ojo dumeh shows that we are grateful people. We are happy with what we have today, we do not need any more.

4. Ojo dumeh saves us energy. Putting others down, cursing at others and thinking negatively about others will only drain our energy. Privileged people should be grateful without belittling less privileged people.

5. Ojo dumeh is self control. If we get angry at a disrespectful person, then aren't we the same as that disrespectful person?
